For this year’s forthcoming Collector’s Edition, Tamara K. Walker’s story, “Camisole,” mimics the design of Theodora Ziolkowski’s “Apples” (or you could say “Apples” mimics “Camisole,” depending how you look at it—even though we’re posting this second, we actually made the “Camisole” chapbook first, so it probably has dibs on the design). Both feature minimalistic cover images, silhouetting a single object from the story. The cover is a 65-lb. brown card stock; the story is printed on 24-lb. bright white linen paper, and there’s a 24-lb. parchment paper title page. This 8-page booklet is 3.5″ wide and 4″ tall.
Emily Koon’s “Butterbean” is slated to appear in The Conium Review: Vol. 4 Collector’s Edition as a 5.5″ by 7.5″ chapbook. The chapbook’s red linen cover opens from the center with a string-and-button closure made from baker’s twine and wooden buttons. The 12 inner pages are printed on 24-lb. bright white linen paper.
We’ll be unveiling more previews over the coming days. The paperback hits shelves on November 30th. The Collector’s Edition will see a limited release on November 30th with a wider release on December 15th.
Marina Petrova’s magical realist story, “Dictator in a Jar,” is absurd, satirical, and laugh out loud hilarious. The brown 65-lb. card stock cover lists step-by-step instructions for creating your own dictator in a jar, should the mood strike. This 5.25″ by 7.5″ chapbook is printed on 24-lb. natural white linen paper with an inside leaf made from drafting paper.
This chapbook is one of nine items found in our upcoming Vol. 4 Collector’s Edition. Pre-orders for the paperback are now on sale. Ordering information for the Collector’s Edition will be available soon.
Yesterday, we began previewing the The Conium Review: Vol. 4 collector’s edition with Kayla Pongrac’s “Chiroptera.” Today, we’ve got another peak for you! Rita Bullwinkel’s “Passing” is included in the collector’s edition as a micro-chap. This 7-page saddle stapled booklet is printed on 24-lb. natural linen paper with a 90-lb. bright white card stock cover. You can pre-order the Vol. 4 paperback here (which also includes Rita’s flash fiction), and the collector’s edition will soon be available from our store too!
The Conium Review: Vol. 4 launches in a week! Just like last year, we’re producing a handcrafted collector’s edition alongside our usual paperback option. The collector’s edition contains the same nine stories as the standard edition, but they’re each presented as handmade broadsides and chapbooks.
Over the next seven days, we’ll be previewing one or more collector’s edition items ahead of the launch date.
We’re excited to showcase the broadside for Kayla Pongrac’s “Chiroptera.” This 4″ x 5.25″broadside is made from a red canvas stock with a second layer of white paper bonded to the top.
