Innovative Fiction Panel Full Page Flyer

What the Heck Does Innovative Fiction Mean?: Authors Cut Through the Jargon” is organized by The Conium Review, and it will feature a down-to-earth chat with Carmiel Banasky, Matt Bell, Ashley Farmer, and Manuel Gonzales. Our managing editor, James R. Gapinski, moderates. The panel is from 3:00 to 4:15 on Friday, April 1st. Join us at the Scott James Bookfair Stage for a riveting discussion and Q&A on innovative fiction. Directly after this panel, Carmiel Banasky will be signing copies of The Suicide of Claire Bishop at our table (#1238). We hope to see you there!

Manuel Gonzales wins the John Gardner Fiction Book Award

More news from last year’s Innovative Short Fiction Contest judge, Manuel Gonzales.  His debut book, The Miniature Wife, won Binghamton University’s John Gardner Fiction Book Award.  Congrats on the latest award, Manuel!

Last year, he also received Sue Kaufman Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

We’re proud to have had Manuel as a recent judge and looking forward to his next book, The Regional Office is Under Attack!, forthcoming from Riverhead Books.

Vol. 3 Collector’s Edition Preview: “American Rag Story,” by Tom Howard

Here’s peak at The Conium Review Vol. 3 Collector’s Edition.  Tom Howard’s “American Rag Story” won our Innovative Short Fiction Contest (judged by Manuel Gonzales, author of The Miniature Wife).  Manuel called the story “funny and tragic and formally interesting.

Manuel Gonzales to teach at the University of Kentucky MFA Program

This year’s Innovative Short Fiction Contest judge, Manuel Gonzales, will teach at the newly established University of Kentucky MFA Program.  Other MFA Program faculty at the University of Kentucky include DaMaris Hill, Julia Johnson, Gurney Norman, Erik Reece, Frank X. Walker, Andrew Ewell, and Hannah Pittard.

Manuel Gonzales is the author of The Miniature Wife and Other Stories, and he recently received an American Academy of Arts and Letters award for his collection.
