Fiction Editors wanted for The Conium Review
About the Position
We need people who can help read and evaluate incoming submissions for our print editions. The Conium Review is staffed by volunteers; there is no pay for editors. However, you will receive a masthead credit and a free copy of any projects that you work on. There are also occasional opportunities for discounted admission to conferences that The Conium Review is exhibiting at.
Schedule and Time Commitment
Generally, we have work even when we’re not open for submissions. There’s always a backlog of manuscripts waiting for review, so please let us know if your availability is likely to fluctuate throughout the year. This isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, but we need to know in advance. If you are invited to be a reader, you’ll be expected to read submissions about three to five hours per week.
Additionally, you may be asked to attend occasional virtual staff meetings via Skype or Google hangouts. If you are local to Portland, please let us know. Face-to-face staff meetings or reading sessions would be fantastic.
If you’re interested, please send us an e-mail with the subject “Fiction Editor Inquiry.” In your e-mail, include the following information:
- Tell us about any previous editing experience.
- List any academic credentials, awards, publications, or other fancy stuff you think we should know about.
- List four or five books/authors you admire.
- Provide a brief statement explaining why you want to volunteer as a Fiction Editor for The Conium Review.
